Nulla sine / sole umbra
Nulla sine sole umbra, which means "no sunshine without shadows" (or shortened to Sineumbra), is an underground network of interdisciplinary collaborations that has been active since 2017, focusing on performative arts and live interventions.
The project brings together performers from different fields - dance theatre, music, film, fashion, graphic design, writing and crafts. Together we create immersive temporary environments. This space is meant to be inhabited by both performers and audience, experimenting with all declinations of movement between light, body, vibration, and forms of feedback and resonance, as opposed to static, coherent representation and the simplifying and flattening of history.
Our site-specific performative events are portals through which many things happen simultaneously. Sometimes confusing, sometimes fascinating. Bodies are carriers of meanings and other subjectivities.
The dialogue between these practices enriches the storytelling and reaches meta levels of communication that we explore and shape.
The constellation of artists - broadly defined - who have crossed paths and collaborated with Sineumbra continues to evolve and grow. Officially co-founded in 2019 by Luisa Eugeni and composer Mattia Bonafini, the project is now coordinated by Luisa Eugeni.
